Members of the Book and Artventure Club had a successful read-aloud in Sta. Ursula Elementary School, Pampanga, last October 18. Officers of the BAV carefully picked the book: “Dream Big,” by Kat Kronenberg, illustrated by Stephanie Dehennin, to read to the 4th graders. The story’s main theme is about dreams and personal goals, and not giving up on them. For the artwork, BAV and the students of Sta. Ursula Elementary School made pop-up butterflies!
The officers of the BAV Club picked a butterfly as their artwork to illustrate hope and the power of dreams, just like in the story. In the book, a humble caterpillar dares to dream of flying and, through courage and faith, eventually becomes a butterfly. We hope they come to realize that with imagination, perseverance, and belief in themselves, they too can reach their dreams.
In Dream Big, a baboon learns a secret to achieve his dream, initially sneering at others. After realizing his own dream, he encourages Termite to pursue hers, leading to her success and inspiring the audience. After we read this wonderful book, officers of the BAV guided the 4th graders in making their own butterflies. In the end, the children truly enjoyed the story, and had fun creating their own butterlies... and BAV members were rewarded with appreciation from the children and the teachers. BAV members also received certificates and brownies from Teacher Sharon herself.
The Book and Art-Venture Club would like to extend their gratitude to Teacher Sharon Morales, who helped organize this successful event, PSDS Ma’am Emyleen Casupanan Samonte, the school head Ma’am Sylvia Llagas Rivera, and SUES teachers for letting the BAV members read!
