The Book and Art-Venture Club members recognize the importance of saving lives of others during emergency situations. But how do we learn to do that? Well, thanks to the Junior First Aid and Basic Life Support Training by the Philippine Red Cross, BAV is now certified to save lives. In attendance were Carly, Joaquin, Claire and Greta, along with several other homeschooler kids.Â
PRC’s Junior First Aid and Basic Life Support’s main objective is to teach kids how to give CPR, proper bandaging, and how to respond when there are urgent situations and disasters. It prepares kids to face different kinds of medical emergencies, such as heart attacks, broken bones, open wounds, etc.Â
We were also very lucky to have the very beautiful and admirable Doctor Gwendolyn Pang, PRC’s Secretary General. She popped-in during our second day of training and gave us an inspiring speech about the importance of saving lives and congratulated us in advance. She also shared with us the goal of Philippine Red Cross to have at least one person certified in a household.

Our three-day training course was held from July 10 to 12, and on the last day, we had our certification based on what we learned on the previous days. We rode an ambulance and responded to a simulated emergency. The situations presented were very life-like with victims having head concussions, broken bones, etc. We also had to carry the victims to our teams’ assigned ambulances and bring them to a safer place to complete our exam.
The training was very fun, helpful and exciting. It was extremely informative about the types of emergencies, and how Philippine Red Cross operates. We also met a lot of new friends along the way. But most importantly, BAV Members are now certified Junior First Aiders, ready to help people in dangerous situations.
Thank you po, Red Cross Mandaluyong Team!
